The cell phone accessory market has grown by leap and bounds over the past few years. When we started in 1998 phones and accessories were expensive.
That was back in the day when Nokia and Motorola dominated the market and most accessories worked with multiple models. Models such as the Nokia 6100 and 5100 series had a year plus release life. The accessory market was small enough you didn’t find counterfeit products.
The influence of LG and Samsung on the market has changed things. Many new phones are available for only 3-6 months before being replaced. The accessory market has grown large enough that OEM counterfeiting is a real problem. Some online retailers now ship directly from China without ever checking the quality of the products.
